We frequently see large numbers of clearly commercial photo shoots, weddings, anniversaries, etc. taking place on the beach which raise and cause a number of issues. They are frequent sources of major congestion on the streets with the loading and unloading activities sometimes involving several trucks and vehicles all in the street just for one event. The trash left behind has been significant. The additional crowding stresses everyone else trying to enjoy the beach. And we really do not need the publicity!
Turns out that we have quite a bit of room to work this.
If someone is doing something commercially, then it requires a permit.
NO PERMITS are issued for Old Ladies Cove, the tidal swimming pool, or Pirates Castle. The only allowed areas are the main area of Victoria Beach. The area around the corner should have no commercial activities or staged events.
Mike Roy is working with Shoreh Dupuis to look into having some really noticeable signs made for that area that state something like "NO COMMERCIAL PHOTOGRAPHY or EVENTS permitted in this area".
Maybe get them put up in view line or even on the stairway and at the tidal swimming pool. That might make the photography a bit more challenging....
And in any case, we can now go ahead and call it in if we see anything going on over in that area that looks commercial! Use the non-emergency police line: 949-497-0701 ext 2.
Next is working with the city to increase the resources available to more effectively address the issues.
NO PERMITS are issued for any events (weddings, anniversaries, etc.) at all at Victoria in the summer.
In the summer between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Permitted activities (basically photo shoots) are allowed from 7:30am to 10am and from 6pm to sunset and are limited to 2 per day. In the winter, the allowed times go from 7:30am to sunset.
Weddings, etc. are permitted in the winter BUT ONLY AT THE MAIN VICTORIA BEACH!!!!
I'm working with Micheal Litschi, Reza Jefari, and to get a regular update which will be posted here so we can know what is going on.
Here are links to the guides and forms that the city uses for that process:
